“Happiness is a way station between too little and too much.” ~Channing Pollock
One major component of Buddha’s teachings was to follow the middle way–a path of moderation between over-indulgence and denial to find a balance between worldly and spiritual.
Whether or not Buddhist ideals appeal to you, it’s tough to deny that balance and moderation make sense. When you work too much, your personal life suffers. When you obsess about finding or keeping love, you don’t enjoy everything else in your life as much.
And worst of all, when you focus solely on chasing and getting things you want, you get caught up in a whirlwind of disappointment: when you don’t get exactly what you wanted; when you get it and it’s not what you expected; or when you get it and eventually it ends, as all things inevitably do.
If you can relate to always wanting more and rarely feeling it’s enough, you may enjoy today’s post, How to Want Less and Be Happy About It.
