“It is better to travel well than to arrive.” -Buddha
The illusion of “there” can provide a lot of hope. When you keep your eye on something down the road, imagining it will make life perfect, your present challenges seem less difficult. All you have to do is keep going, keep working, and someday it will all be worth it. Someday you’ll arrive.
The main problem with this way of thinking is that you likely won’t recognize or enjoy it when you get there. If you don’t practice appreciating what you have, you won’t know how to do it when you get what you want. You’ll always have on eye on something on the horizon.
There’s nothing wrong with visualizing the life you want and setting goals to get there. Just be certain you relish in the simple pleasures that connect your heres and theres. Life happens in between. Enjoy it.
