“Things and conditions can give you pleasure but they cannot give you joy—joy arises from within.” –Eckhart Tolle

TAKE ACTION:

A similar passage from The Power of Now reads:

Pleasure is always derived of something outside you, whereas joy arises from within. The very thing that gives you pleasure today will give you pain tomorrow, or it will leave you, so its absence will give you pain.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting and acquiring things. What’s dangerous is attaching to them, mistakenly believing they will lead to happiness.

No physical thing lasts forever. If you depend on your clothes, your car, or your house to fill you with a sense of joy, a fire or financial crisis could you diffuse your bliss and leave you empty.

Hitch your happiness to things no one can take away. The way you feel when you let your guard down and sing at the top of your lungs. How much you enjoy feeling the crisp air on your face during your morning jog. How the ocean sounds when you lay on your board, hovering above the rippling waves.

Connect with your bliss today. Do something you love that requires nothing but your heart. Let your joy arise from within.
