“Making the beginning is one third of the work.” -Irish Proverb

It’s all to easy to bury yourself in the planning stage of a new venture–when you’re visualizing your dream, evaluating your options, analyzing your obstacles, and in no way taking responsibility for creating and maintaining momentum.

Some people can spend years plotting to take action without ever actually doing anything. I’ve been there before, as I imagine we all have. This is a place that feels safe–a time when you don’t need to taint the fantasy of something new with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty about whether or not you’re actually headed there.

Once you start, it’s no longer a someday dream–it’s something you’re either moving toward or not, and that can be scary. Nothing makes us feel powerless like the fear we may be just spinning our wheels. But the only way to get moving is to start.

To take one simple step, focus solely on that, and then have the patience and courage to let the journey progress over time. The feeling of being alive and passionate doesn’t come from solely from achievements; it’s a consequence of feeling proud of our willingness to try.

What can you try today to start moving toward your dream?
