“He who deliberates fully before taking a step will spend his entire life on one leg.” -Chinese Proverb

Over the past two weeks, I’ve focused on the theme of trusting yourself. I started with Worrying About the Future: On Trusting in Uncertainty and then followed that with There is No Expert on You.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about making decisions, it’s that we’ll never have all the information to feel absolutely certain about the choices we’re making. There will always something that we don’t yet know and won’t know until we act and then learn through the process.

Perhaps that’s all we really need to commit to: the willingness to keep on moving.

Sometimes we may move back before moving forward. Sometimes we may move forward and then realize that’s not where we wanted to go. Other times we’ll move at just the right pace to just the right place, finding purpose and passion in the journey and the destination.

The only thing that’s certain is we won’t stretch, grow, or learn if we wait endlessly for the perfect moment to start on the perfect path. There is no perfect path. There is just what makes sense in this moment, and what we take from this one to carry into the next.

What makes sense to you today?
