I am opening a small restaurant this year. I am quite excited and will be opening in about a month or two. I have just been having problems picking out the name. I dont want to stick with the unsuitable name for many reasons.

Here is the info to help in choosing a name :

It is gonna be on Adyar,Chennai. If you have never been here or heard of it it is a great place. Views of sea shore and one of the largest beaches, fishing (sea food) and many more. I could go on for a long time about the things you can see and do in here. But I wont you can do a little search and ask questions if needed.

My restaurant is kind of small like most of the others in chennai. I do have one of the best views of shore sides.

Most of the available food here is chettinad, chinese, rice and idly, Pizza and Burgers. I was planning on departing from that and going a bit more on the fresh side and hints of a city type bistro. Panini, fresh shucked oysters, wide range of salads; green, pasta, grain, fruit, exc, fresh squeezed juices and mostly daily specials.

I have been stumped a bit on the name though. The following have been considered.

    “Bistro on Button”
    “Recess Cafe” “Sea side Bistro”
    “Hot Chennai Grill”

I want to sound fresh and inviting. But not at all pretensions. I also don’t want a name to box me into any one type of food or cooking. The names I have thought up are ok but not really getting me there. At the end of the day it wont really matter all that much as restaurant can be packed with people for over 100 days and I could call it any name and sell hotdogs on tridents and still do just fine.

    And your suggestions?

    Hi mazed-up,

Out of the choices I like “Recess Café” the best.

This is why: If I’m on vacation or traveling, I actually have 100 things on my mind, albeit small . “Where did I park the car? Where are my kids? What are we doing? Do you have the keys to the hotel room?”

Recess Café is EASY to remember, AND it rolls off the tongue. So if I’m texting or calling my friends or family I can tell them to meet me there without having to think.

Good Luck on the new restaurant!!

Or, Button’s Bistro (instead of Bistro on Button) as a second choice.
