I got a weird dream today morning about my best friend in my college. we were room mates we were classmates we were too close.. we had faced lot of stuff together been there for each other. But after 2008 i drifted away from my friends after my breakup with my ex bf since we had a lot of common friends and she is one of them. She invited for her marriage i never went and she moved out of country after that and i never was in touch neither was she (even though she atleast had my email id). After today i felt like writing a long email to her about old times how i still miss her even though i havent been in touch. But i want to take a step back what if she doesn’t really like em anymore or like talking to me.. If she did like she would have contacted me long back right? and all that thoughts.. please help me.. should i write to her or not? am i being too insensitive?

    Dear Niyata:

Good to read from you again. Regarding re-connecting with this old friend; You are worried she may not want to reconnect. This is why sending her a long email, like you are thinking of doing, is not a good idea. Not after eight long years. Instead, you can send her a short email, telling her a bit about your life in these eight years, telling her how fondly you remember her and your time with her in the past, and asking her how her life has been since.

A long email may overwhelm her, after all this time. A short email (a third of a page or so)- will be more inviting.

    Dear Anita,

Happy to see your reply !! Yea i guess she will be overwhelmed too and that may even make her not to reply.. I’ll keep it short.. It will be a waste to let that friendship go.

    Thank you!

I agree that you should keep your email short so that you do not overwhelm her, but she might actually be really happy to hear from you after all these years. It can sometimes happen that friends lose touch but it does not necessarily mean they do not care for each other or like each other anymore, sometimes life happens and your roads just end up separating. I would love to know what happens if you decide to post again.
