“I tried to teach her a lot of things”- she did a lot of learning before she ever met you, when she was a child. If her mother taught her certain things, she learned those things early. If what you tried to teach her were things different than what her mother taught her, she would have to un-learn what her mother taught her.

Mothers/ parents have great power over their young children. This is where most learning takes place, in childhood and the teachers are the adults present, usually the parents.
