Dear Amy:

You wrote: ” I feel like I’m figuring out who I am” – if I was you, that would be my first priority: to figure out who I am.

And you already started figuring this out; you wrote: “I’ve come to realise that I’m not a big public displays of affection person and I don’t like being called ‘cute’”- so you figured this out.

A healthy relationship is an opportunity for you to figure out who you are and be that person that you are. Being true to yourself has first priority. Be you in the context of this relationship. It shouldn’t be being you OR being in a relationship. It should be both!

So risk the relationship the way it is now and assert yourself. Kindly but confidently tell him that you don’t like public displays of affection etc. Be specific so he knows exactly what you want and what you don’t want.

Post again, with your assertions with him perhaps, and his response?
