    Hi Everyone,

Been dealing with alot of creative procrastination.
I have never experienced this before so it’s hard to know if this is exactly what it is.

I have a desire to play viola and be creative, I tell myself I want to be play viola or I should go be creative,
but I choose to loaf around and play video games. I used to write poetry too, but now seem not interested.

Could this be a possible connection? Or is there a way I can jump start myself or break this habit?

    Hey Doreen!

I’m sure you are not alone with this 😀 I know the feeling all too well… Noone can be creative all the time, sometimes its weeks and even months and then one day it hits you like a storm! Boredom is one of the most creative energies… 😉

I guess there are just times in life when creative energy is low. It’s totally ok to do nothing at all, to just be and do whatever feels right, even if it is not productive. We are so under pressure to do something productive or meaningful.. but really, if you would die tonight, you would probably say “what the hell, I’m just gonna play games and eat pizza till its over!”
The body and the mind need time off. One could argue whether gaming really gives it that time, or whether its just another form of entertainment that keeps it busy so you don’t have to think.

I don’t really know your life situation, or why you feel the need to be creative, but another reason why creativity might stall is because you put too much pressure on it. Sometimes we procrastinate because we have so high ecpectations and are afraid we won’t be able to fulfill them… if we don’t start anything, we can’t fail! Takes the fun out of it, too.
I suffered from that a lot, now I don’t aim for anything, I go weeks without doing anything and then I try to do stuff only if I really want it. That’s a lot more fun!

Whatever it is, I would say try to take the pressure of, do whatever you feel like and don’t feel bad for it, it will come back! Some non-productive off-time in nature might help as well to really let the mind wander and give you a clearer feeling of what you want and need…

    Hi Doreen
I can relate to your stuff. Sometimes, I also feel to write something creative. But, I am not able to concentrate well. I have realized that we must not put pressure on us. Otherwise, we will not be able to suck the creative juices. We can’t force anything in our lives. We have to understand the natural flow.
If you are not interested in a particular thing, you can’t generate love for that thing. There is no need to feel bad about anything. There is nothing right or wrong. You just have to prioritize your preferences.
It is just my opinion. Wishing you a happy life, buddy.

    Thank you Kath and Yatin,

I appreciate your feedback and wisdom. You’re both right, I have been putting immense pressure on myself to be creative and in the process it halts my inspirational thoughts. I will just move forward and go with the flow. If I have find my creative voice wonderful and if not no need to push myself. (:

    Hi Doreen!
Thanks for sharing your story 🙂
I have felt this way for…probably years now!
My passion is writing and helping people- but I feel consumed by my corporate job with little time to exercise my true talents.
It’s not easy to find the balance- I would like nothing more than to just find a path where I can do the things I love, still make a decent income and enjoy life more fully!
I feel like sometimes we just need to release the pressures we put on ourselves- ask the Universe for guidance and stop pushing so hard for the desired outcome. If we really focus on FEELING it- we will manifest it, right? 😉
I certainly hope that’s the case for yourself and anyone else who struggles with this- when we align ourselves with what we really truly want- eventually we will create the lives we desire.
