Dear Reader:
Worldometer, March 24: yesterday, there were close to 60 thousand new cases and 26 thousand new cases and 1,070 new deaths (in a not yet 3rd wave); there were 117 new deaths in Turkey- the highest number of new deaths in its third wave of the pandemic; close to 19 thousand new cases and 551 new deaths in Italy yesterday- the highest number of new deaths in Italy’s current third wave of the pandemic; over 17 thousand new cases in Poland and 400 new deaths, the highest number of new deaths in Poland’s current second wave of the pandemic.
ETNT Health, USA, March 24: “With Spring here, and the vaccines rolling out, it’s tempting to think the coronavirus is basically over—but it’s truly not. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared Good Morning America today to remind Americans that you need to be careful to stay safe—and to stay alive.
“Dr. Fauci started off on an optimistic note. ‘Well, I’m quite optimistic about what the impact of the vaccines are going to be because every day we give up to 3 million doses of vaccine in people’s arms,’ he said. ‘I believe that’s going to ultimately have a very positive impact, but in the meanwhile…the number of cases in the country have plateaued. That’s not good. They should keep going down and down. And they’ve plateaued at a level of about 53,000 cases a day, which is not good because we’ve seen this before—when you plateau like that, there really is a danger of a resurgence,’ he said. ‘We’re actually seeing that in Europe. And quite frankly, we generally are about three to four weeks behind the dynamics of the outbreak that we see in Europe. So given that the Europeans are surging back up, that is very clear that this is a risk that we will be doing the same thing. Don’t pull back. We need to keep doing the public health measures that we talk about.’…
“Follow Fauci’s fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don’t travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don’t go indoors with people you’re not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you”.
