Dear Emily:

Regarding the bad news, it crossed my mind this morning that maybe a landlord who hassles a tenant and/ or threatens to evict a tenant for smoking anything is infringing on the tenant’s rights, so I looked at  nolo. com/ tenants rights to smoke cigarette or marijuana, and it reads: “Tenants don’t have a universal right to smoke in their rentals. There is no law, either state or federal, that provides people with the freedom to smoke when and where they want“.

More: “Using and possessing marijuana for any purpose (including medical reasons) is illegal under federal law. As far as state law, depends on the sate: “To find out what the law is in your area, do an Internet search for ‘anti-smoking laws’ or ‘smoking ban’ where you live”. Also: “Although landlords who manage properties subject to laws that limit or prohibit smoking should attempt to inform tenants of the rules, it’s the tenant’s responsibility to be aware of and comply with the law“.

Here is good advice (in regard to your next rental): “If you plan to smoke in your unit, it’s best to find out the smoking policies before you sign a lease or rental agreement. If a landlord tells you that you’ll be able to smoke in your unit, make sure you get that statement in writing. Otherwise, don’t enter into a lease or rental agreement knowing that you’re going to violate the no-smoking rule. Hold out for a rental that meets your needs—the risk of legal hassles or even eviction just isn’t worth it”.

Good planning: to store your furniture next month, to start your apartment search and to take steps toward quitting marijuana smoking. You are a responsible woman and mother!

Good work studying for the science test,  taking the practice test every day, and planning to take the test tomorrow morning. All you  need is 2 points more than what you got last time. Keep yourself as calm and as confident as you can be during the test. You can make it happen!

Otherwise I still work a full time job M-F which I’m proud of and my son is going to the 2nd grade starting September. So a few things are going good and others are not“- focus on the good (and do what we can about the rest). I am proud of you for working full time Mon-Friday and for being a good mother to your soon to be second grader!
