My friends recently got into meditating. And I’m happy for them. Problem is when they try to force me into it. I know its with good intentions but I really don’t feel the need to meditate. I’m happy with my life and I like what I do: going on nature trips, drawing, etc. I know it has it’s health benefits but I don’t see how it’s a stretch better than the stuff I’m doing. Plus, I think I’m already in a good place. I don’t know. I just see it as another medium but not the ONLY medium. Am I weird?

I’m scared I’ll lose a bunch of my friends just cause of that…

One size does not fit all when it comes to meditation. I can’t meditate that way and don’t. You are probably like me and meditate in other ways. Most of the time I don’t even realize that I am doing it. If you needed to meditate that way, you would. Continue doing what you are doing.
    Blessings to you

I don’t think meditating is only sitting down on a cushion, eyes closed, and counting your breath saying “ommmm”. It sounds like the nature walks and the drawings you do is your own form of meditation. My life has changed for the better due to actually sitting down on a cushion, eyes closed, counting my breath (and occasionally chanting “ommm”), but westernkat is absolutely correct: “one size does not fit all when it comes to meditation” and I commend you for finding activities that bring you happiness in whatever form they may come in.

I’ve always been of the mindset that my true friends accept me and my choices without trying to change me; otherwise they are not truly friends with ME as I am, they are friends with the image of me that they want to mold me into. You state that you are already in a good place, please don’t let anyone take that away from you by trying to force you onto their path.

Have a wonderful day Sea Monkey.

I have trouble mediating too. Iv’e read a lot about my personality type, which is an ISFP aka an “Artisan”. People of this type tend to be caught up in the present moment more often than not, and isn’t that half of what meditation is about anyways? Being present, and connecting with yourself? I do this a lot by relaxing in nature, sitting and listening to instrumental music in the quite, and other ways. I think meditation comes natural to some people, more so than others where it is a trained skill. I suggest anyone questioning this to take the Myers Briggs personality test. I have learned a lot about myself and others by doing so. You might just learn something about yourself.
