I just received an offer letter with a date to accept it that is in the past. Is it okay to ask the recruiter what is the correct date to accept it by?

Dear Bartleigh:

You can tell the recruiter that you failed to respond to the offer letter by the date stated in the letter (you can provide the reason), and ask the recruiter if you can still accept the offer at this later date.
