I really try hard not to lie… I did, however, just tell a lie to my dear friends and feel immense guilt.

We were to be meeting this weekend for a girls’ getaway trip via an airplane. I have a husband and teenage kiddos and I really get anxious when I leave them and was really just not wanting the stress of traveling.

Instead of just telling my friends this and enduring their disappoitment, I lied and said my husband had COVID.  I am so disappointed in myself not only for lying, but for dragging my husband into the lie.

Should I come clean to them? Or leave it alone and promise myself and my husband to never do such a thing ever again?

    Dear Mom2Twins:

If I was you, I would come clean to my friends as soon as possible, and tell them just what you posted here. You told a lie and an unnecessary lie so.. correct the lie by telling them the truth. Do so in a way that shows regret but also respect for yourself (for courageously correcting your mistake).

Keep in mind that your friends are not perfect either. Maybe your correction of your own mistake will encourage them to do the same: with you and with other people in their lives.
