I recently got hired as a part time software engineer. In my resume, I put that I was a senior at a University studying computer science, which I was, a couple of months back. I since then dropped out. I don’t plan on going back to school. However, when going through the interviewing process I didn’t want to tell them that I dropped out. I believe they wouldn’t have hired me if I did. So long story short, I got an offer for a part time job in the end. The only reason why I got it I think, was because they thought I was going to college and I’d learn more things as I work for them and finish my schooling.
I’ve been in the job for about a month now, I’m getting acclimated well, and there are openings for a full time positions and it was definitely dangled in front of me by my boss but I’m not sure if I should tell them I dropped out of school. I’m just afraid that if I tell them I want that full time position because I actually dropped out of school and I’m available to work full time. They would think I deceived them and they’d fire me.
Do you guys think it’s not a good idea to tell my boss so soon? Everyone working in the company has at least a college degree or more. I’m afraid they’d tell me they can’t hire me full time because I don’t have a degree.
My other plan is to work part-time for a year and keep lying that I’m going to school for a year. In the end of the year, hopefully, I’ve integrated in their company so much, they are forced to hire me even though I don’t have a degree.
