Hi guys,
My name is Blake and I’m nearly 28.
I’ve been studying a diploma in music, however I’ve just started a somewhat steady job doing Audio QC work, as I’ve been struggling to sustain freelance work in the film and TV industries for four years now, after graduating in 2012. I started studying music last year to get off unemployment benefits and onto a study allowance. I must say it was a blessing in disguise, as I realise it’s something that I enjoy more than what I initially studied in 2012 (Post-Production Sound/Sound Design.)
I’d love to make a career playing music, but the realistic side of me says I won’t make a living doing that, but my heart says yes. I’ve given until the end of this week whether to withdraw from my music course and carry on working and earning steady money, whilst doing the music thing in my spare time, or quit the job and continue with my course, where my weekdays will be more fulfilling and I’ll be happier, but will have financial worries for the future looming over me. I do have enough money in the bank to sustain me about a year though and won’t miss the 90 minute commute each way for this job.
To be honest I can’t see myself doing this job for the long term, and maybe even my initial career choice (Post-Production Sound/Sound Design.)
I’d love to hear your thoughts, thank you!
