Dear Hazel:

Jose, your former manager, and Danielle, your former co-worker and friend had a sexual relationship that extended to Jose stealing money from the business and giving it to Danielle, sort of, to display his gratitude to her. Jose told you he was having sex with Danielle, and Danielle told you she was having sex with Jose and that he was stealing money from the restaurant and giving the money to her. I suppose they both felt comfortable sharing with you their behaviors which were against company policy, and Danielle sharing with you an illegal activity.

At one point, months ago, you approached an upper manager of the restaurant and told him, or her, not (?) that Jose and Danielle were stealing money from the business, but that they were having sex. Both were fired.

What an interesting story, leading me to wonder about these things: did you report the stealing? If not, why not? How did Jose and Danielle, separately, respond to you going to upper management? Are you still in contact with either one of them? And did you tell your husband?

I don’t expect that you answer all my questions, born out of curiosity. Restaurants are a very interesting place to work in, the coming and going of customers, different people, interactions all day long, a delightful place of work, I think.
