Hi All,
I’ve spent most of 2019 in a state of self-discovery and I’ve learned a lot about myself. I think I may finally understand what my purpose is, what I’m here for. I visited with an intuitive at a local fair recently and she said she believed me to be a healer. This resonates with me deeply, I think I’m meant to provide support for people, to spread kindness, to create space, to bear witness. So where does this leave me in terms of a “career path”?
I’ve heard those words and phrases above from individuals who have attended divinity school and work in the religious sphere. While I love the idea of helping people connect with their spirituality, I am NOT religious. In fact I came to reject Christianity for myself this year and I’ve never felt more spiritually fulfilled than I do now. Are there “pastors” who are not religious?
So I guess I’m wondering where to go from here, any career or volunteer ideas? I should note that I can’t afford to go back to school, much as I would love to. I have to keep my 9-5 job to pay the bills and my husband and I have very little savings. I do have a basic Associates degree though.
I’ve never posted to an online forum before so thanks to any who see this and offer advice or ideas!

Long ago I attended a Unitarian Universalist church. Wikipedia states on the topic: “Unitarian Universalists assert no creed, but instead are unified by their shared search for spiritual growth. As such, their congregations include many atheists, agnostics, and theists within their membership”.
You may want to attend this church and see if there is a fit with you. Part of the activities of this church is volunteering opportunities, to help the community at large.
There are also various New Age churches, one of which was one I attended long ago, called Agape (Los Angeles, California). Within that church there was a program where members studies to become spiritual advisors to other members. It included classes, a graduation of sorts and then providing paid counseling to members. I don’t know anything about that program beyond what I just shared.
I hope to read from you again, regarding your “Next Step”!
