    Hi Robert–

Sounds like you’ve got a really good head on your shoulders, and while I’m sorry to hear you are feeling lost, it sounds to me like you’re taking really good steps in the right direction. I’m not an expert, but here are some thoughts:

Are there other tests/activities or anything at all I can do in order improve my chances to obtain a scholarship?
–I’m not sure. Certainly the SAT is an option, but I think they’re about the same. I will say you are a strong writer, crafting a well-written personal statement does have an impact.

Are there other things I need to be doing in order to improve my chances of financial aid and academic success?
–I know many colleges have admissions offices with admission counselors/recruiters that will be happy to give you some specific pointers. Perhaps contacting the admissions office and asking to speak to an admissions counselor (or the equivalent) might help.

That being the case I am certain that Ill make the same mistakes if some generous soul does not help guide me.
–Something tells me that’s not true 🙂 You seem to me to be very self aware and clear headed. Maybe you would do things differently if you got a do-over, but it does sound to me like you’ve learned and are moving forward. That’s a lot, and I hope you’re giving yourself credit 🙂

    Good luck!
