Dear Lily:
“When I’m at work or uni, I can work for hours and concentrate well, but at home I struggle so much to get started and procrastinate”- this is very, very common. I know a person who keeps his work area very organized, does not procrastinate at all when it comes to that, but at home, she doesn’t keep her stuff organized and procrastinate for months and months.
The reason for that is that she is excited about organizing her work area but organizing her home area distresses her. We easily do what we feel motivated to do and we avoid tasks that distress us. Or it is a combination of task and location that distresses us.
As you try to improve in the area of not procrastinating at home, aim at fewer objectives, form very humble expectations of what you intend to achieve at home, and be gentle and patient with yourself as you go about achieving an objective.
