Dear HoneyBlossom:
Good to read from you again, congratulations for having had all the tumor excised! I hope that your dog continues to be seizure free. You mentioned homeopathic treatments for dogs, something I was not aware of, so I looked online, and I see that there is a product called Nuroplex in capsule form and in a liquid/ spray form, to “help alleviate the symptoms of chronic seizures and epilepsy… in dogs and cats… a natural alternative to traditional drug therapy”.
There is also a book called Canine Epilepsy & Seizures: Causes and Treatments. From the Amazon entry about the book, it reads: “Seizures are one of the most common neurological conditions in dogs… They occur when too much electrical activity is going on in the outer layers of a dog’s brain called the cortex… Seizures are the result of muscle responses to an abnormal nerve-signal burst from the brain”.
Wikipedia on Epilepsy (mostly in humans) reads: “Not all cases of epilepsy are lifelong, and many people improve to the point that treatment is no longer needed”, “There is evidence that epileptic seizures are usually not a random event. Seizures are often brought on by factors (also known as triggers) such as stress, excessive alcohol use, flickering light, or a lack of sleep, among others”, “There is promising evidence that a ketogenic diet (high-fat, low carbohydrate, adequate protein) decreases the number of seizures and eliminates seizures in some”, and “Epilepsy… is in fact the most common brain disorder in dogs… It is typically treated with anticonvulsants such as phenobarbital or bromide… Imepitoin is also used in dogs”.
