Hi folks, I would like to share and have your suggestions on the below….

I’m the only one in the team to have raised my voice against duplicity of work being done between teams functioning from two countries.

And it seems it hurt the ego of other country’s team and team lead (like how dare I raise my concern as I belong to offshore team and ideally my lead is not bothered about what’s going on in the team). So ideally they decided to take over me and started pointing my work (in presence of 3 other members on the call) and putting pressure to finish the work in three days for which ideally I had 8 days. As I might get released from this project this Friday !

Long story short – the lead from the other country pointed a lot on my work, that I’m slow, why you need 4 hours to do it, we cannot reach our targets if it’s like this, etc. I was the only one from my team and they were three from other side. I felt insulted, ashamed, embarrassed 🙁

Now I’m feeling like I’m the odd one out from my team. All have the concerns, In-fact many concerns but no one raises voice.

On top of all, this team lead who embarrassed me in the call is coming next week to our office for two weeks. I’m too ashamed to face him.

How should I deal? Be polite say hi how are you? My wish is to ignore him after a hi, but it will again make me odd one out and might as well sound rude. Don’t know, m too confused, low on self-esteem….

Friends, I look for your suggestions? I had never raised my voice earlier in my career of 5 years; as it is the first time, I’m feeling intimidated…:-(

    Was I wrong?

    Feeling low 🙁

    Anyone,
I am definitely the wrong person to ask on anything to do with office politics.

Am I right to understand that you meant duplication of work rather than duplicity?

I do suggest that you get alignment especially from your own team lead when it comes to anything to do with raising issues and concerns about your own team or the other team.

You may want to confer with your own team lead to ask for his/her suggestions how best to smooth things over with this visiting lead.

And/Or, how about having you, your team lead and this visiting lead may go into a conference room to address this kerfuffle head on. You would apologize saying that you did not mean to offend but raised the issue with the best interests in mind for the company. You may want to say that you want to have better relations and note that it does neither side no good to point out this in public/team meetings. You made a mistake for doing that. Have an agreement to talk one-on-one about it so both teams won’t get involved with the bickering.

    I wish you luck.

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply….:-) I really appreciate the effort to reply each time…

Well, my manager since the beginning of the project seems to have been shredding off the responsibility and least bothered to know what work our team is doing or if there’s any issue at all. Like many managers; he prefers to just get the things done and enjoy the managerial position… In-fact I texted him a while ago that I would like to discuss about today’s call with the other lead. And he replied ..’Thanks for the update’.

Good idea to discuss it in a conference room rather than taking out mess in a team call. But other lady from the other end took it out in the call, mentioned me and I had no other option but to clarify my side. Also, my manager is not giving me space to talk, may be because I will be released from this project in two more days….

Would like to know your thoughts too….

If you are not going to be involved with the project and the other team then best to let it go and move on.

My main point overall is best to get alignment and support from your team first before bringing up such issues.
