    Hello all,

For the last couple of months, I have been without the motivation and drive to get things accomplished like I used to. This involves wanting to take the easy way out with everything and finding ways to put in as little work and reap the greatest rewards.

I’m a junior in college studying as a pre-med and that means I have the intention to attend and get through medical school to become a doctor. As of lately, school has become a task that just absolutely drains me and it seems as if my ability to complete schoolwork and manage multiple classes isn’t there. Oddly enough I grew up with a great amount of anxiety which drove me to always be on time to class and freak out about assignments and tests, but that just isn’t the case anymore. I don’t understand why my head isn’t in it anymore.

I should note that as a senior in high school I suffered from a great deal of anxiety which led to panic attacks and I spiraled into a minor to moderate depression. I battled this for months until I was put onto the antidepressant Zoloft. Along with this I was competing in a sport and working towards goals in this sport as hard as it was while dealing with the panic attacks and not wanting to do anything because of the depression. At the same time, I found interest in a girl and started talking to her and all of a sudden it seemed as if these depression and anxiety symptoms were starting to fade.

Fast forward a couple of years here I am in college with a decent GPA, but I’m starting to see a decline and my overall willpower is steadily decreasing. I should note that I dropped from 100 mg of Zoloft down to 50 mg of Zoloft because it is my goal to get off of the medicine at some point (I don’t want to be taking it forever).

I came on here to get some input as to why I’m feeling the way I am because it’s hard for me to assess myself. I do enjoy the medical field and I have a passion for having a wide database of knowledge, but the schoolwork as an undergraduate is taking a toll on me and I just don’t get why.

I look forward to seeing responses and feel free to ask questions as this may help me to engage myself and better understand myself.

    Sincerely,

    Scott

There may be a cause-and-effect with the reduction of Zoloft dosage.

Try going back to the same levels and see what happens.

    Dear Scott:

The anxiety you suffer from drains a lot of energy from the sufferer. It is the biochemistry involved, draining one from energy. If you suffered less anxiety, your energy level would go up and your motivation much improved.

Regarding Zoloft, I may have shared it with you before: I used to be on 400 mg per day for years, then 300 mg. I successfully went off it a few years ago. At times, many times while taking Zoloft I thought I was feeling better. Yet, looking back at the 17 or so years of high dosage Zoloft, my functioning in life all through those years declined.

My subjective feeling at times was better (how much of it is the placebo affect, I don’t know), but my exhaustion remained, my anxiety was on, and my functioning steadily declined.

Managing and healing from anxiety, that draining biochemistry, is your best bet. And it is possible, although it takes that initially … draining attention, or mindfulness, a different way of being.

    Hey Scott,

I saw your post here and really wanted to share this book that helped me to change my life with you. I have found peace and a deeper knowing and have learned to let go of so much–all of which has really improved my life experiences. I was seeking for so long before I found this book, and since then, the seeking and wanting for something has stopped.

The book is called Things Are Going Great In My Absence and its by Lola Jones.
I started with the book and then went onto all the other amazing resources in Lola’s program, Divine Openings. Lola guided me in changing the way I see things and approach situations in life…she helped me to transform my life while feeling guided and supported. I urge you to check it out!

I’m telling anyone I can about this book since it has helped me so much. I’ve been sharing it with all my friends and family and getting them all involved with Divine Openings too! They are loving it and I hope that you will love it to. Get the book! It changed my life!

    Sending ease and love
