Just as the topic title says.
Which movies do you find inspiring, interesting, touching, uplifting… Whatever.

I don’t watch many movies, and i easily forget the titles.

Right now, i remember only a few movies that really impressed me.
    – Angulimala – about Buddhism, i watched it last year on Youtube, perhaps it’s still there!
    – In Victus (about one of the most impressive people that i’m grateful to have lived on the same earth as him)
    – The Gods Must be Crazy (i saw that years ago, and just this week i watched it again, and i loved it, don’t know if it will keep impressing me, like the 2 previous ones)

    – Also the series Kung Fu, with David Carradine, about a Shaolin Monk, is brilliant.

If i remember more, i will post them here later.

I ADORE the gods must be crazy. Watched it hundreds of times. Or like… Ok maybe 15. Apparently they paid the bushman in cattle and they all got eaten by lions on the way home.

    For me…

LA vita e bella. Life is beautiful. An Italian subtitle film bur three films on one.

Das Boot. A German subtitle film. . Watched that truly 200 times. Can give German submarine commands at will. Ha.

Um.. apocalypto. … I just just learned something about myself. Mg favourite films are foreign subtitled films.

    Dear Sann:

favorite movies: The Never Ending Story (1984), Psycho (The original, 1960 something), Unforgiven, Fatal Attraction, The War of the Roses, Training Day, Thelma and Louise, are a few that came to mind. From TV: Columbo was my favorite for a long, long time (“One more thing…”) and until I got tired of it, The Big Bang Theory, most recent… oh, Breaking Bad. Don’t have TV service anymore. My taste has changed over the years though: I used to favor scary, suspense movies, some of which I mentioned above but not anymore. I also had endurance for violent movies which i don’t anymore. So there has been an evolution.

Breaking Bad too…loved the main character and his side-kick…..
and that Kung Fu series with David Carradine was a classic!

Chariots of Fire, my all time favourite,
“you came here to see a race today, to see someone win, …” that is the most memorable scene of any movie I have ever seen. So powerful..
(hey pomp, this scene was in Scotland! beautiful scenery even if it was raining!)

Movies that i love (aka i tend to re-watch a lpt for whatever reason) –

    Kung Fu Panda
    The Blind Side
    Inception
    Memoirs of a Geisha
    X-Men First Class
    Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
The Perks of being a wall-flower
    Bridget Jones Diary (part 1)
    The Devil Wears Prada
Little Women (with Wionna Ryder as Jo)
Legally Blond (some parts where Elle gets serious about things)
    A beautiful mind
    The Mirror has two faces

Movies that i thought were brilliantly made (in terms of story-line, direction, acting, cinematography etc)

    Life is beautiful
    Nymphomaniac (particularly vol 1)
    Lust, Caution
    Children of Heaven
    Moods of Love
    Dreams by Kurosawa
    Match Point
    Lost in Translation
    Birdman
    Colors of Paradise
    The Shawshank Redemption
    Apur Sansar
    Elizabeth
    Pearl Harbour
    The motorcycle diaries
    Enemy at the gates

Lol okay my mind is a bit blank right now. Will write more when i think of more. I tend to gravitate towards inspirational biographies, funny movies with positive themes, movies that depict certain normalities of life in a transcedant way – what i dislike is the horror and gore genre – somehow it shows the worst of humanity and leaves me in horror (yep pun intended)

    steve martin in the jerk

“you mean I’m gonna stay this colour?” his character as an adult finally leaving home with black parents, his mother tells him “the big secret” of him being adopted as a child. 🙂

midnight cowboy with dustin Hoffman and jon Voight (father of Angleina Jolie)
that was a classic, showing the insanity of city life versus the naïve country boy and the sadness of Ratso Ritzo (Hoffman)
