First of all, i’m not sure if i’m writing this under the right category. Since it’s about connecting with your intuïtion, i thought i might consider it under the topic spirituality. But i would like to know if someone think that’s not right. Maybe it doesn’t matter too much, but would be interesting to hear others’ thoughts about it 🙂

Recently i’ve become interested in dowsing, don’t know much about it yet. I am very surprised to see myself writing this and see myself having bought my first pendulum yesterday. Because i come from a family where there was no openness for such things, everything very strict and rigid. I took over that way of thinking, eventhough something in me always felt that there was more.
So i guess that things change in life 🙂

Quite a while ago, somebody talked to me about dowsing – a woman who i considered very wise – and she sparked my interest. Later on i was surprised to see that a lot of practitioners like homeopaths for example, use this in order to decide which treatment or which dosage. A while ago i started to think about it again and thought that perhaps it might be a way to help me to connect with my inner self, and learn other things. So i started to think to buy a pendulum – although that lady told me you don’t need anything special, and a good dowser she knows, who is even in charge of a dowsing organisation, even uses a toilet bolt on a chain.

Yesterday i was in a shop where they sold pendulums. I took one and asked it if i should buy it, it said no. A bit later i came back cause i wanted to buy a present for my partner, and i asked an other pendulum, and it said yes.

This morning i was asking it some questions and i found it a bit confusing.

I am completly new at this, and probably will have to learn much about it, how it works and how i should deal with it. So it would be interesting to hear other people’s experience or knowledge. I’m reading things on the internet as well, only i don’t always know how reliable those things are. So i’m trying to use my common sense with reading those things.

This morning, the pendulum seemed to change direction for the yes symbol now and then.
There also seems to be a third answer – i was trying to ask it what exactly that answer means and i got a bit different answer. First was something like ‘not sure’ and later it seemed more that i was not supposed to know that answer at the moment.
It also sometimes said no and then yes, or vice versa when i repeated the same question.

So i’m wondering.. is it a matter of practice, that i need to get used to it?

I was also thinking, if it sometimes gives me answers that i want to hear – maybe i need to learn to ask it with an open attitude. Maybe without really knowing it, i’m holding on to the answer i’m expecting, so already forcing it to give me that answer?. Maybe i need to learn to be really open inside of myself, open for answers that i don’t really want to hear.

Cause i read that it can give you wrong answers for many reasons (e.g. if you are asking information about somebody else without having the permission, if you are not ready for the answer, if there are a lot of people talking and thinking about that subject, it might be harder to get the right answer and not just pick up the thoughts from others about it…) so maybe this might be a disturbing factor for me getting the right answer?

I remember that lady told me, not to do it for more than (i think it was 10 minutes) in the beginning. Maybe i was just going on for a bit longer and should start with short sessions and very simple questions?

I have no idea how it works, but i do find it fascinating!

If anybody has some feedback on this, i would love to hear it.
Or if anybody has an opinion about, would be interested to hear it.

    Hi Sann!
Dowsing is such a helpful tool for me and I love using the pendulum, and though I’m not an expert, here’s my take on things.
I think a huge part of it is practice. I know it took me a long time to really get used to things and build my own little system for the pendulum to work on. Have you tried communicating with your pendulum? It sounds silly, but it helped me a lot to sit and really think about what I wanted it to do. (Vertical for yes, horizontal for no, sideways to the left for maybe, sideways to the right for “I can’t tell you.”) It doesn’t matter what you use for your pendulum, but it really helped me once I figured out my system. For example, you could hold it and meditate on each command, such as clearly stating everything in your head, like “move horizontal and only horizontal for yes,” etc. After a while it should follow those commands accurately.
As far as it giving wrong answers, it’s true that there could be lots of reasons to why it does that. For me I find that if I don’t feel completely clear or open, the pendulum definitely tells me just what I want to hear. This is especially true if I’m very attached to the subject I’m asking about. Really focus on clearing you head beforehand! And it’s true that it can be a wrong time for the answer, which is why I have my pendulum indicate that to me by moving sideways to the right. You can also print out and try a pendulum board! Those are very in depth and helpful in accessing your intuition, though I find using one to be kind of draining as it requires a lot of focus for me.
I would probably start with shorter sessions in the beginning, because I remember getting tired very quickly before I got comfortable with it.
I hope I could help! These are all just from my personal experience, so feel free to fill any gaps in with your own intuition. Good luck! 🙂

    Dear Ella,

Thank you so much for your reply!
And sorry that i didn’t reply for so long..
When i wrote this post, i just bought the new pendulum.
But i was just in the time of having to find an other house, and having to pack up all my stuff, and being there was very stressful, due to the situation with the housemates. So i didn’t feel relaxed at all in that house, so i thought that it wouldn’t be good to start dowsing there. Because i assume it’s better to be relaxed and at peace when you do it, and i couldn’t relax in there. Now in the new house, i also still don’t really manage to relax, and am constantly superstressed because of problems at work. So i don’t know if this is the good time to start with it.
Because of all the stress, i just forgot that i did this post here, and i didn’t see you post for a long time..

In case you read this and if you still feel like answering, i’m wondering about one thing you wrote. The way that you wrote, gives me the impression that you tell the pendulum what to do: which way to move for which answer.. Is that right?
I’m a bit surprised because i always thought that the pendulum decides this. The way i was shown it by a few people is they hold it still and say ‘give me yes’ ‘give me no’ and then see hoe the pendulum moves.

I don’t know anything about dowsing but I was tickled by your thing about asking the pendulum if you should buy it because that’s the kind of thing I do = though I didn’t know about about dowing til I read this that that’s actually part of what it does haha – says yes or no – when I ask things these questions I just hold the thing in my hand and ask it (in mind) and sometimes the thing heats up in my hand really hot or I feel a vibe and that’s my yes. if there’s nothing then it’s a no to me

as you were! I know nuffink so I’m bowing out xx

    Hi Pomplemous,

    Ha, that’s interesting!
So you have your own way of asking questions to objects and then you know if something happens it is a yes! That seems a bit more advanced to me then dowsing, where i buy a pendulum and try to follow the ‘guidelines’. You develop your own way of communicating with things, well done!
How did you come to this?
And, are they random objects, or things you have a special connection with…?

Haha feel free to answer my questions or not, i find it interesting. No need to bow out as far as i’m concerned, but that’s up to you of course 🙂

Thanks for sharing your creative way 🙂
