I am in my late twenties, graduated from college, and have not used my degree and have been out of a job for three and a half years. My field deals with social problems and requires driving. I have been through a lot in my life mentally, physically, and emotionally and I know that it is a stressful field and I know in many ways it will affect me. At the same time, I fear of driving and fear of having to go to unfamiliar places and the dangers and risks involved with people and such. I excelled well in school, but it was a major I really didn’t research and think about at that time. I like helping people that is for sure and in helping create a positive impact in this world, but often times feel unsure. I am very confused as to what path I should take in life. To go and continue in this field or not. I am very confused and at the same time feel bad because I worked extremely hard on that degree. I do not know what makes me happy and where I see myself at in life in regards to careers and such. I feel very embarassed, stressed, hopeless, and a major problem, disgrace, and stress to my family. I really do not know my mission in life. I greatly appreciate any advices. Thank you.

    Hey Love

    What a beautiful alias 🙂

You are not alone in this world when it comes to finding your niche and / or purpose in life. Less than 1 percent of the population really knows what they are doing or want out of this life. Rest of us (99 %) are still trying to find some contentment in our existence 🙂 This is sure to put a smile on your beautiful face.

When we learn to walk as an infant, we fall many times, yeah ? But we get up and keep trying until, hooray – first step, second step and on to runningggggggg. Life is very much like that. We need to try something before we can fail or succeed at it. Be it failure or success, both can teach us valuable lessons that will make us into better humans. Hmmmmmmmmm, now doesn’t that make you excited to go out and try a few new things ? Who cares what it brings (success or failure) as either way, it will be a step forward in life 🙂

Helping people with social problems is an awesome field to work in as long as you remember that you are not them or their problems. You do your action of helping them without any expectation in return. Pls “let go” each day by doing meditation or spending some me time. Many people who work in professions that deal with peoples issues (medicine, social work, disability care, police, nurses, pharmacist, counsellor, psychics, healers etc) become overwhelmed with sadness, insensitivities or suffering and risk an emotional and physical burnout. However, by practicing mindfulness and detachment, we can prevent that and still continue to contribute to society in a positive way.

In my experience and opinion, there is nothing bigger than helping someone else find happiness or peace in this world. So go out and do that 🙂 you will find your love in the process ;). Begin with small steps such as practicing positive affirmations: I am safe and Universe is meeting my every need. Whatever happens will happen for my highest good today and always. I give love and receive love freely and effortlessly. I am making a beautiful life every moment.

Loads of positive energy coming your way,

    J

Jasmine, a hard act to follow:)
I think we all have to experience life, ie. get out there and fail and come to our own conclusions as to where we belong. Our niche changes during our life too. I’m 56 and still struggling with self-awareness so don’t expect to have all the answers soon.Sounds like I am in a similar field to you. My advice is “yes help people but always keep some humour about it and maintain detachment for the sake of your own mental health” (pretty much what Jasmine said). My conclusion is, that there is no ideal job out there, just a handful of options that may suit us at a certain point in our lives. Try to meet your trials and tribulations with patience and kindness to yourself. That is something I am still learning myself.
