Hi everyone at tiny Buddha (:

I’m having a problem with noises, but not as in hearing voices. Loud noises, especially people talking loudly, freak me out. I know it is because of all the fighting I have been around until I was 17. I can get over the loud bangs quickly enough because you just can’t prepare for them, but they are also over quickly. I have a problem when it sounds like people are raising their voice; the anxiety I start to feel is unnecessary. When I hear an argument on TV, between someone I know, or even a random person in town, I can only stand to be around it for a few minutes. I need help, (strategies if anyone else has used any or had this problem?) controlling my anxiety in these situations, and especially when there isn’t an argument going on at all (for example, people being loud at a party).

Thank you in advance for any responses (:

    Dear Laycee:

I had a great sensitivity to noise my whole life, music from neighbors, any neighbor sounds, loud people, the whole thing. I tried wax ear plugs and muffling sounds with a Sleep Machine (train/rain ongoing sound) as well as turning on a noise fan for that purpose. When in public and there is a loud couple of people in a table nearby, I move to another part of the place, away. I don’t go to parties. I moved to the country, eventually. I have nothing else to offer. I wish I did because I would have helped myself. I hope someone else has ideas for you!
