    I remember reading somewhere that “should” was a word we need to avoid saying and thinking.
    I guess the point being made was, we set too high expectations for ourselves, living up to the ideal self.
    But I see that “should” might have some value too.
    Keeps us moral, like our conscience. Stops us from choosing evil?
    And is it so bad to have an ideal self we try to live up to?
    If we have no ideals, we might think we can do as we like, who cares.

    Dear Jack:

    I agree, all in moderation, even should in moderation. I should not abuse others. Good use of should. I should please everyone all the time- bad use of should. I vote for keeping should. Should should not be eliminated.
