About Tiny Buddha: Simple Wisdom for Life’s Hard Questions

You may have previously seen information about my eBook, Tiny Buddha’s Handbook for Peace and Happiness. This is a compilation of my most popular posts from the first year of the site, and it’s only available as a digital product.

Tiny Buddha: Simple Wisdom for Life’s Hard Questions is entirely original, available both in print and as an eBook, distributed through Conari Press. And it started as a collaborative project.

Last year, I asked @tinybuddha Twitter followers a number of challenging questions, including “What’s the meaning of life?” “What does it take to be happy?” and “How can you make each day count?

I received more than 1,000 tweeted responses, and narrowed them down to 200 that form the backbone of this book. Tiny Buddha is a combination of their insightful answers, stories from my life, and lessons from wise teachers around the world and throughout time.

I wrote this book because I lived much of my life feeling paralyzed by pain and uncertainty. While there is much that may always be unknown, we can still empower ourselves to live peaceful, purposeful lives based on what we do know.

The “Life’s Hard Questions” Contest

To support my book launch, I decided to host a fun, creative contest around the question:

What’s the hardest question in your life?

The prizes for this contest include:

  • 1 Canon DSLR Camera (approximately $500 in value)
  • 2 Amazon Kindles (each with a free digital copy of my book, approximately $100 in value for each)
  • 10 hard copies of my book (approximately $16.95 in value)

To enter, all you need to do is take a photo of yourself displaying the hardest question in your life. Your question might be about love, happiness, forgiveness, meaning, money, social change, religion, politics—anything that you’ve struggled to answer.

There aren’t many rules for the photo—just that you must be in it, and your question cannot include profanity, nudity, or other people.

You can feature your question in any way. You could write it on a piece of paper and hold it, or do something more creative, like:

  • Write it on a chalkboard
  • Use a stick to draw it in the sand at the beach
  • Paint it on a canvas
  • Write it on an Etch A Sketch

What matters is that you communicate your question, but creativity is a good thing!

How to Submit a Photo

You can submit your photo using the entry form provided on lifeshardquestions.com, where the photos will show in a slideshow. Please note that there is only one photo entry allowed per person. Be sure to read the official rules—you’ll need to agree to them when you submit!

The Contest Deadline

The contest will run for approximately two months. You can submit a photo any time between now and January 15, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time. This project may continue beyond that date, but any photos submitted after then will not count as entries to the contest.

The Winners

Though creativity is encouraged, the winners will not be selected by judging or voting. Everyone who submits a photo will be eligible to win one of the prizes. The winners will be chosen by a random drawing n January 16, 2012.

Need a little inspiration? One of these photos may help get your creative juices flowing (and yes, the first one is me):

You can also view the early submissions in the slideshow at lifeshardquestions.com.

Thank you

This is a big day not only for Tiny Buddha, but for me personally. I appreciate that because of this site and your support, I had the opportunity to publish this book. I also appreciate that some of you contributed tweets for inclusion. It wouldn’t be a Tiny Buddha book if it didn’t include reflections from the community.

Lastly, I appreciate that you bring such kind, loving energy here. I’ve had insightful, heart-opening conversations with many of you, through comments and through emails, and that’s why I do this. Every one of those exchanges matter to me—thank you for being a friend. 🙂
