Yup! I know exactly how that feels. You feel something and don’t know why. And to make matters more complicated, you then feel guilty for those feelings. “Why would I be depressed if I have a job, if all my family members are ok etc etc etc…”

Step 1: CONVERSE WITH YOURSELF, honestly. Really think deep, think back, think in. Is there something or someone you’re pretending not to care about but in fact you do? Or something that triggered this state from another time etc?

Step 2: FEEL. If you really asked yourself and you examined your thoughts and your experiences and you found no culprit, then feel your emotion. Your emotions are not alien to you, they are an expression of you. But they are also NOT you. You ARE not depressed. You are IN A STATE of depression. Read that again… This is a very important lesson I’ve recently read about. Sooo, it’s a feeling like any other feeling.
When your nose itches, there may be no particular reason. It just itches. So, you feel it, and then you deal with it or it goes away on its own. Come to terms with the fact that you’re feeling sad and then think, “ok, weird. well it’s a feeling”

Step 3: PUT IT TOGETHER. To sum it up, my advice is to DON’T try to explain it once you found no explanation. This is where we make conflict within ourselves. It’s like having your nose itch and then saying “Nothing is rubbing against you, stop itching!!” It’s just not going to happen. So, don’t explain it, don’t fix it, don’t reject it. This is how I picture it, you’re a shell on the shore, standing on the sand. Different waves come, some quick, some slow, some big, others small. But you still stand there and then waves come and go. Close your eyes and imagine yourself happy. Ok now imagine yourself worried. Ok now depressed. This is where you are, a depressed version of yourself, but it’s one of many. So it’s ok, embrace it, and then let it pass you!! 🙂

And yes, like Matt said, breathe!!

    Hope that helps!
