    Hi Ivy, if you’re still out there. With respect to your desire to become more optimistic, you can learn how to do this. I highly recommend the book Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman. I’m still working on getting there myself, as I tend towards pessimism. I’ve re-read the book several times and find the exercises and tips very useful and practical. One of the best books I have ever read.

    Hi Lauren, I can relate.

    When I notice similar thoughts and emotions, I remind myself that things are impermanent and this moment is all I have. I also tend to catastrophize; I remind myself of the lesson of this parable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_old_man_lost_his_horse. Finally, I take some action towards solving the problem. For example, you could start researching where else you might want to live and planning to emigrate elsewhere.
