You shared that you want to get to know girls better and “become more than just acquaintances” beginning online- I suggest that you start by reading what individual girls share online regarding their interests, and ask each a question about her interest. If she answers, take it from there.

If you want to post an example of a girl’s interests that she expressed online, and be given a suggestion as to what question you can ask her, you are welcome to post it here and I will reply again.
