It’s been seven months now; seven months since I last held a high-paying job in my field, and I am at my wits end… sort of.
I am ready to give up on finding work in my field, and so I’m trying alternatives, and some have been disastrous, costing me thousands.
I am trying my hand at professional writing via content-mills like fiverr, com, but that won’t pay the mortgage, and so I need to get something else going, and yet, my passion is to write and get better at my craft. I think my solution is to create a blog page, which I have done so I can blog and post there every day. But again, it doesn’t pay the bills.
And still the litany of crap excuses as to why I’m not a “hireable asset” continue, almost daily. I thank the Lord for my Faith, because that’s about all that’s keeping my spirits up right now. Regardless, I’m weary of complaining about it (to myself) and I want to do something positive about it for both myself and others.
So I wanted to kick this idea around with others who may commiserate: what if there was a consulting company that focused on putting seniors (professionals over 55) back into the workforce? I know there are advocacy sites that promote hiring seniors or publish senior-friendly job postings, but I’m thinking about making this into a business venture.
I have the ability and latitude to develop a second blog page and can potentially expand it into a full-blown business page that caters and focuses on this.
So everyone, anyone? Please share your thoughts and ideas with me on this. This situation has been ripping me apart and I’m sure its not doing my family any good either. Thanks for your time all.

I have no business or blogging experience, no website experience but your idea reads like an excellent idea to me, I like it! There are so many 55 and older struggling with an older-age phobic job market. I sure hope you can help yourself and others!

I cannot thank you enough for that feedback. It’s great to see some sunshine once in a while, eh?

Very recently I had a friend come to me with the exact same issue: the age phobic (thank you Anita for that phrase. love it) approach when it comes to hiring older people. So I did some research for my friend and here is what I found…I contacted the community college. I was directed to go to their campus job center. When I went there, I found some extremely encouraging options for my friend. Within that job center they have assistance designed exactly for people in this predicament. They have real time contacts in the community otherwise not available to the general public. How they pull that off I have no idea. Also, I do not know if you are a veteran but assuming you are in the US the job center also has retired career military people with strong connections with companies that give preference to veterans. If that’s not enough, check this out. There is a department down the hall that has workshops and guidance for people wanting to develop their entrepreneur abilities. They go so far as to give you step by step methods to achieve it, connect you with companies associated with the entrepreneur development process. After setting my friend up with this avenue, he got a well paying job in 4 weeks. Incidentally the counselor told my friend that 70% of the jobs out there are not found on the internet. They are found on head hunter job sites, which I guess does count as the internet, and lately a very powerful resource is LinkedIn. I hope this is helpful to you. I’m not going to wish you luck though. I’d be implying you need it. You already have what it takes so go get it my friend.
