I’ve been in my job for a year. It’s not perfect but it’s ok, actually it can get very stressful at times. I pull my hair when I’m stressed and this is definitely exacerbated at work.
I get on well with my manager who is very supportive. The pay could be better and my hours. I do 8.30-6 and then the occasionally Saturday and bank holiday. I have the option to work from home but don’t get any paid overtime or hours back for this, only if I’m in the office. So a bit of a raw deal in that respect.
I find myself regularly browsing job adverts although I’m not seriously looking to quit any time soon. It’s more for keeping a look out in case there’s something amazing. My manager being a good support helps to balance out the negative most of the time.
I found a job yesterday. It’s only a receptionist/admin job for a construction company who refurb listed buildings but I actually found it interesting. The job will be the basic phones, post, office supplies, filing eetc but it has stood out to me more than the other generic job adverts I’ve seen.
It’s slightly better money, better hours, no weekends or extra working from home. I’m not desperate to leave my job but there’s obviously something in my head cos I’m always browsing and considering applying for this one. The good thing is that if I don’t get it/want it, I’m not desperate to go right now.
I don’t really know what I’m asking here. I guess because I don’t hate my job I feel like I don’t NEED to find another. However this job is very stressful sometimes and I would like to get away from that. My managers are my saving grace but as always they’re not perfect.
Before this current job, I really did hate my previous job and this one saved me. I guess I’m worried about jumping ship for ‘only a receptionists’ job… But I think I might enjoy it.
How do you decide when to apply for a job? I know I don’t need to explain myself to anyone but still feel hesitant to go for it

The way I understand it to be is that like many people the restlessness is inside of you, the anxiety, the ongoing fear that causes you to pull your hair (first two lines above).
Re-reading a bit from your previous threads, this anxiety has been going on for many years, maybe most of your life. (It has been so in my life).
In some jobs you will be more anxious than in other jobs. Having a very supportive manager in your current job, one with whom you get along very well is a huge plus.
A job with better hours and better pay, I believe, will not compensate for a non supportive manager. A non supportive manager will be a source of lots of anxiety for you, so do pay attention to management in future job considerations.
I believe the anxiety, the restlessness, will be there in you (as it is in me) no matter what job you have. If you expect to not feel anxious in a job, I suppose you will always be looking for that magical job in which you will be anxiety free. And although you may have a calm hour or day in any particular job (just like in life otherwise), the anxiety is a condition that does not go away when one changes jobs or other external circumstances.
