I have an unsolvable dilemma that is breaking my heart. I met a lovely lovely man and we were so happy together, until he told me he definitely doesn’t want children. He told me this on the same day my best friend told me she’s pregnant, and I broke down in front of him, feeling completely heartbroken at the thought that I would either have to lose him or never have the chance to know what it is like to have a child of my own. He was so kind at the time but later said we need to end the relationship as we clearly want different things (he will never change his mind on the kids issue, he says). The thing is, I like him so much I would consider being with him and not having children. I’m sure we would be very happy, but it wouldn’t be the future I’d always imagined, and I wonder if I could cope with the regret of deciding not to have children later down the line. I feel utterly hopeless at the thought of not having him in my life. Has anyone else been through this?
