I just broke up with my girlfriend of about a year and 4 months. She told me that if I ever loved her that I wouldn’t be ripping her heart to shreds. This is both of our first relationship. We’re trying to still be friends but I know she’s still hurting. I just wasn’t happy anymore and I don’t know what to do. We used to hangout almost all the time and texted all the time. Now that we’ve broken up, I think she just feels empty. I can’t stand to see her sad, she’s my best friend. I can’t handle this guilt and I think I”m becoming depressed.

    Dear George:

I hope the two of you, separately feel better soon and recover from this breakup.

If you would like to share about this relationship, what made you unhappy or didn’t make you happy, please do. If it will help you to share, that is.

I will soon be away from the computer for about sixteen hours. I hope other members will reply to you before I am back.

I know it might not help for me to say this, but first relationships are always the most emotional and difficult, especially the breakup.  Time will heal things. Don’t feel guilty.  Relationships are about finding compatibility, if you know it’s not meant to be, then there is no guilt in respectfully being honest with the other person.
