I would like to be pointed in the right direction to learn more about Buddhism.  I have a few books, what steps do you recommend?

I really believe the most helpful thing to do is check and see what Buddhist organizations and meditation centers are around you and attend a sitting. Talk to people about Buddhism and how it has effected them. Reading is good for intellectual basics but nothing is like person to person experience. Buddhism and Zen are very much about Sangha so go for it!!!

    Be well,

    Dear Bella,

By reading we get new information. By involvement we get experiential knowledge which is more profound.

Book – The hearth of the Buddha’s teaching (can add if you don’t have)

Experience – Suggest you to go to nature. Pay attention to sun, moon, ocean, air, tree, insects, birds, flowers, clouds, rain… everything. You will start to realize something by yourself. After that you can apply the gained knowledge into society.

Some books that got me started on Buddhism:

    1. Zen Mind Beginner Mind -Shunryu Suzuki

    2. The Heart of Buddha’s Teachings – Thich Nhat Hahn

    3. Charlotte Joko Beck – Nothing Special

    4. Geri Larkin – Stumbling Towards Enlightenment

Those were all very helpful and illuminating in the beginning for me.
