I’m struggling with depression and anxiety. I’vee been dealing with anxiety since I was 4 years old and depression since I was 10 (I’m 33 now). The constant feeling of sadness and dread wraps around me like a cloak, so I’m reaching out for some support. I’m on meds sporadically (due to financial reasons), but meds are something that I need to be on in order to correct my brain chemistry. Then, I can deal with the root causes of my depression and anxiety.
I`m just reaching out for some support.

Also, practicing mindfulness and spending some time each day meditating and focusing on the present moment can help you with those feelings. To tackle depression, have a think about what you really want to do in life and make goals towards it without any excuses; also do something you enjoy for at least a little bit each day.

For the longest time I was depressed about being depressed. Depression is like that, it likes to work its way in like a cancer and reproduce it self.
In the words of Sun Tzu “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
That said I don’t like looking at depression as an enemy as that tends to set up resistance and depression is very good a using resistance and turning it against ourselves. We are after all resisting ourselves. As Walk Helly said “We have met the enemy and he is us”. You don’t want to become your own enemy and work against yourself… which if your depressed you probably are. Still the advice holds true, if you know your self and know your depression you need not fear.
Today I might say I have a relationship with depression. There is, I think, a time for all things even depression however I no longer fear it and not fearing it know its time will pass.

Although I have also tried many different approaches; medication, therapy, meditation, self-medication, denial, etc, etc. I don’t have a cure-all that’s for sure. Apparently, from all the mental health specialists there is no cure-all. Having said that I highly recommend podcasts: The Hilarious World of Depression and The Anxiety Guru Show. Those 2 specifically so you don’t have to go searching through hundreds and hundreds of them. In all actuality, I would love to sign back on at a later date and see if you felt something positive from any of those shows or even share with me another one you find….
I’ve tried sharing some episodes with close friends or close people that I thought would benefit but most of them haven’t been through what I have so it didn’t seem to really effect them much. Curious if it helps another 30-something person dealing with anxiety and depression like me. Please send an update/opinion if u get a chance. ? best of luck

Right now I am in the middle of my worst episode ever. I understand and empathize with you. Things that have helped me a lot are therapy (you can get quick free therapy on several websites or 1800 numbers), meds (which I hate taking but they do seem to take the edge off….however they have long term side effects which may be unpleasant). Also, yoga and I can’t stress enough, exercise. Both of these make me feel better about myself even if it is just for a little while. I also never watch news anymore, write in journals or webboards like this to get it off my chest, keep a gratitude journal and really practice being grateful for every tiny little thing people do for me, watch meditation videos, try to meditate….Basically all the things you read about. However, you never know what combination will work best. Having friends and family to talk with is huge.
