I’m looking for some opinions and guidance as to how to get through the next week(s). To start, my anxiety levels are quite high right now. I’m applying for a job at my present workplace and the interview is in a few days. If I don’t get this position then it is quite likely that I will be transferred to another workplace of which I have no choice due to downsizing. My stomach is in knots just thinking about it. In addition, after spending a beautiful weekend with my new guy, he’s suddenly gone ‘cold’ and distant. For example, he was in my area today and although I asked him to stop by, he never showed, nor did he call back as he said he would (which is very unusual). I’m feeling very insecure right now and need to get myself together! Please, any advice? How do I relax myself for this interview and what should I do about my guy suddenly pushing me away?

    D,
I have done too many job interviews and found some of these techniques useful:

    1) Check out Amy Cuddy’s TED talk on body posture/empowerment – http://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_shapes_who_you_are.html

    2) Visualize your perfect interview coupled with affirmations – http://jackcanfield.com/visualize-and-affirm-your-desired-outcomes-a-step-by-step-guide/

    3) Go through practice questions that the interviewer may ask: http://jobsearch.about.com/od/practice/a/practice-interview-questions.htm

    4) Let go. Remember you only can be and do who you are. With the knowledge and comfort that you will do the best you can and the rest is up to God/the Universe and the interviewers.

    5) Remember to breath.

    Good luck and take care,
    Mark

    D,
I listened to Drew Carole just yesterday. Thinking in terms of getting rather than giving. Can you think about what you have to GIVE in your current job and the interview? What can you GIVE in your current relationship? If you hold on too tight you create fear…..as Mark said “Let Go” – you dont know what is waiting on the other side! xxx

Ah yes Debrah, thanks you reminded me to remind D that the company is interview you because you have something of value that they want. Present yourself as that valued resource that will solve their problems, make them or save them money and is a valuable contributor to enhance the workplace that will make the others around you more productive. It is not a one-way evaluation. You will show them what you have to offer.

    Best,
    Mark

Easier said than done … worrying doesn’t change things. It will keep you from being your best. Picture yourself doing this job. Picture yourself interviewing. Be home alone and actually speak it aloud. You will be surprised on your home turf how confident you can be. Then you have to ask yourself what is the difference? What kind of person is interviewing you? If the have any skills the first thing they do is set you at ease. Interviewing is a skill. It is the ability to find out information not otherwise obtained in normal conversation. Those crazy questions like “tell me a little bit about yourself”. There is a great book that I stumbled on at my library called “The Complete Book of Perfect Phrases for Successful Job Seekers” Michael Betrus and Carole Martin. Printed 2005 or … this is a copy and paste and it is available on amazon kindle Perfect Phrases for the Perfect Interview: Hundreds of Ready-to-Use Phrases That Succinctly Demonstrate Your Skills, Your Experience and Your Value in Any Interview Situation (Perfect Phrases Series) Paperback by Carole Martin it will make you more confident because you will have the answers. Oh one other thing to think about, you managed to get the interview and my guess is that you are a pretty good candidate for the job….Mark is right….breathe and the universe does provide. As far as the guy did you have a nice time? Please excuse my sarcasm but did you think you were going to the alter tonight? You are worth more than that even if he is not. He didn’t show….you should have been able to tell. I always knew when they weren’t going to show. Men, sorry Mark, are very see through. Best of luck. And just remember the universe will provide, it always does. Let us know how you do, please.
