    Hi,

I’d really like to know whether anyone else can relate to what I’m feeling, or somebody who has maybe felt it and found their way out..

I feel really dissatisfied. With life. I try every day to look at the positives/ appreciate the good bits but this nagging feeling of ‘is this it’ is pretty relentless. I am a 32 year old female, own my own house, am single and completely independent. Before buying my property I was in a desperately dark dark relationship and as soon as I escaped it I felt a huge sense of freedom. This then highlighted how unhappy I was at work (corporate company, told off for speaking, painfully repeatative).. so I left and am now working part time in a flexible but unchallenging, quite lonely role in a windowless room and focusing my free time on my creative ambitions. I thought this would make me happy but I feel so unsettled. I have always felt this way, dreaming of running away/ starting over. I find it all so boring; working/ making money/ paying the bills/ living the same routine/ hearing the same conversations. Im sociable and will try different things in my spare time and I travel more than most. I date and get a fair amount of interest from men but find it very tricky finding anyone who peaks my interest. I’ve had several male friends want more who are lovely, so nice, tick all boxes but I’m just not interested. I’ve fallen into a casual relationship with an ex who is similar in that he is a drifter and nothing ever develops further than fun, which i know is for the best but also annoyingly demoralising. What am I missing?

Any advice/ wisdom from an outside perspective would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, J

    alice,

I have an idea of what you’re talking about. Honestly, part of the reason I found and am on this website is because of this listless feeling. I don’t know about you, but I value honest conversation and it’s something I may never get enough of; might as well give it a shot, right?

Just out of curiosity, do you feel you have control over your life and what happens in it? And do you feel you are usually focused during the present moment as opposed to daydreaming or being elsewhere mentally?

    Hello Alice,

I wonder if you have any goals beyond the day-to-day stuff?  Or instead of goals…dreams?  Or the cliche “bucket list”?

    Hiya,

    Thanks for your responses.

I actually do think I am good at being in the present, it’s more that I often don’t feel happy with it. I find working on my arts and crafts gives me a level of grounding. I mostly do feel in control, this is something that’s really important to me. It’s one of the reasons I had to leave a very controlling corporate job.

That’s interesting re. having goals beyond the now.. I don’t. I do have dreams but that is just what they are- they change all of the time. I’ve not followed any kind of plan in a really long time. Even with buying my house, I hadn’t planned to, it was a spontaneous decision because I needed to escape the living situation I was in at the time. So.. I guess this is why earning and spending money and time feels a bit worthless.. because what am I doing it for/ what’s it leading to?

I am very independent, I don’t like to rely on anybody for anything, however I find it is difficult to make plans for just yourself, without anyone else involved i.e. long term goals. I do love the idea of running craft workshops, perhaps owning a studio however I can’t see how it could work when I feel so unsettled/ find it difficult to stay still long enough to really grow anything?

    Dear alice:

Would you like to share about that “desperately dark dark relationship” you escaped? It may be unpleasant for you to share, and of course, I don’t expect you to share if you don’t wish to. I ask because I feel that there is something there that can help me understand your situation better, the situation I read about in your previous thread as well as in this one.

    alice,

You sound like a grounded person in how you see yourself and the context around you. On your own accord, do you expose yourself to things that are new or uncertain to you? Or is it any company you may be with who suggests or makes plans? I wondered if there was a level of monotony in your daily life, but you mentioned you try different things and travel more than most, so it sounds like you do shake things up regularly.

Are there people who you see often and connect with well on a regular basis?
