I’m a teacher and singer suffering a voice disorder. I’ve lost my ability to sing, it hurts to teach and I can barely socialise.

I need the courage to leave my job to save my health, but not sure what to do or where to go.

Feeling lost and sad all the time:(

    Dear Camilla:

Because it hurts you to teach, I do hope you quit your current teaching job, as soon as possible.

Does it hurt to talk at any volume or does it hurt to raise your voice?

When you talk at an audible volume but not too loud, does it hurt immediately as you start talking or after a certain amount of time talking?

I also wonder the prognosis- if there is hope for you to regain your healthy voice or to improve it.

    Hi Camilla,

You might want to take a look at the yogic practice of Ujjayi Pranayama.

It is especially best for those people who are in singing profession, prevents thyroid problems and makes voice sweet and melodious and works on all throat related issues.

    Best,
