    Hello. I have been meditating every single day for about a month until recently when I got autum break from school.
    After a couple of times I felt like my mind was not really that busy and that I was a little laid back compared to before meditating.
    I have also let things taking their time, that everything does not need to happen this instant. But I feel I lost the diciplin to going to the gym and work out, or to go out and run or something.
    Anyhow…
    I have not been meditating anything during this week and I feel like I’ve gained the diciplin back from before and not being/feeling lazy. But I feel like I’m back to being a little more stressed.

    I really think that meditation is a great thing, especially when it helps relax the mind.
    Oh that is another thing! When I got into bed before my mind felt really calm and relaxed, but now I feel like my mind is really the opiset of that.
    Now when I read what I have been writing it seems like meditation is the way to go with all the benefits it gave me. But really I feel like my diciplin to do things disappeared when I started meditating.
    Please help me! Thanks!

    Dear iymstuck:

    maybe before (and after) the times you practiced meditation, when you felt stressed, it was that stress that motivated you to relieve that stress through physical exercise. During periods of meditating, you were not motivated to relieve the stress that wasn’t there much.

    It may not be an issue of discipline but an issue of physiological/ emotional motivation. What do you think?

    Hello iymstuck,

    I was given this advice not that long ago from my counsellor in regards to my motivation levels & the pressure I was putting on myself to meditate, exercise and self care etc. I was finding that the more pressure I put on myself to have serious discipline, the less motivated I would become & then the less I would do. It became a vicious cycle and started to get me really down and feel like I was failing.

    She explained to me that when you are constantly pressuring yourself to do mediation, got to the gym etc, you begin to take the joy and meaning out of these things & instead it feels like a chore. We need to be kind to ourselves as we don’t feel motivated 100% of the time and that’s ok. It’s ok if one week you meditate 5 times and the next week only once or not at all, same as the gym. I have been learning to listen to my body and what it needs during that time, mediation is also great to help you develop this skill.

    So my advice, from my experience would be most importantly be kind to yourself, don’t judge or guilt yourself. Do things you enjoy, when they feel right, set yourself manageable goals, but don’t beat yourself up if some days you fall short. I have found mediation has bought great benefits & I am learning to enjoy it more and more.
