So I have been at my job for 12 years.  I have worked from home for the past 10.  I recently took a new job within my company (this is my third job at the company) and I do not like it.  Seems I went from bad to worse.  They pay very well and with the home office, I have a lot of flexibility which is very important with a young child.  I have been looking for a new job, but I am not getting much response.  I am torn whether I should give up the flexibility and salary and take classes to get into an entirely different field, which feels like an enormous risk to me as I’m not sure I would like it, would likely take a pay cut and I would lose the flexibility I have grown accustomed to.  But, I’m not happy now either so I feel like it is a catch 22.  I keep trying to just accept this job and colleagues for what they are, but each day seems more of a challenge.

    Dear JC:

Reads to me that your current job causes you lots of distress that the pay and flexibility are not alleviating. If you tried all you can to do this job and lessen your distress, and you failed: the distress is significant and ongoing, then look for another job, take the pay cut, have less flexibility, for the purpose of experiencing better mental well being.

Mental well being, with less flexibility and pay, will make you a better father than being distressed on an ongoing basis, as you have been, I understand.
