Has anyone ever experienced negative deja vu? When I am doing everyday activities, sometimes I experience the feeling that I am not supposed to be doing said activity, and that I am doing something wrong. The feeling calls me back to the past and makes me think of past relationships though they are ended. Does anyone have any advice?

    Dear Rosie:

Experiencing Deja vu, as I understand it, means that let’s say you meet a person for the first time, but you have the strong feeling or conviction that you’ve known this person for a long time, or you visit a place for the first time, but you feel strongly that you lived there all your life.

What you described in your short original post: feeling that you are not supposed to be doing something that you are doing, feeling that you are doing something wrong, and remembering past relationships… these are not Deja vu experiences. Would you like to elaborate on these experiences?

    Anita,

Hmmmm…. it’s like this… I was close to being in a relationship with a man, but it didn’t work out. I still think back to when we first connected and things were going well. Since it ended though, I have been starting to date other people and move on. Randomly during the day, such as when I am working at my desk or grocery shopping, I will get this strong feeling that what I am currently doing in life is wrong and think back to that previous experience, though it didn’t go anywhere. I know that reaching out to this man would be unproductive, but it almost feels like a part of me is betraying him by moving on with my life.

It also feels like this has all happened before, or that something else is happening on another timeline.

    Dear Rosie:

Part of you feels that it is wrong for you to move on from this man and date other people, that by living a life independent and separate from him, you are betraying him. You feel that it happened before “on another timeline“- maybe that other timeline is your childhood. Maybe you feel or felt that living your own life independent and separate from one of your parents is equal to betraying (one of your parents, or both)?

(I will be away from the computer for a couple of hours).
