Is it weird to not have any goals or dreams – anything else that I want to aspire to in my job?

I like the job I have but my boss keeps wanting me to take further training or schooling.

I’ve been at the same job for the last 20 years.

    Thanks

    Dear Glenda:

I don’t think it’s weird. What is your boss’s motivation in wanting you to take further training or schooling?

I think that she wants me to keep improving and possible step up to a bigger role in the company.

Personally I like my work life as it is and was actually wanting to cut back on my hours – I don’t need to be in full time to do the job I have right now.

    Dear Glenda:

Often people are wrong when they think they know what is best for other people. Reads like you know what is best for you: less hours, not a bigger role. It is not weird at all to know better than others what you prefer, what you want, what is better for you.

Maybe it is not that you have “No goals/dreams”, maybe it is that you don’t have others’ goals and dreams for you. Societal convention is to make more money, accumulate more things, drive a bigger car, consume and consume. We who do not follow the convention aren’t weird, I don’t think.
