Hi!
I’m not sure this is going to be in the right category… Meh!
Okay, so I have a class called Integratrive Projects in which I have to create a project (duh!). At first, my idea was to do a research on the point of view of beauty in different countries, like beauty standards, and then search how they are created (those standards) and how are they influenced. After that, I would have draw the ideal woman and men of different country and pinned them on a world map to show that beauty is a subjective matter. My teacher for some reasons says that I don’t have a good motivation/goal. Overall, she seemed like she wasn’t liking the idea. She said it was something everyone already knows (she was so harsh!). Anyway, now I have to find a new idea! The differences and similiraties between countries and cultures is still a subject that really interests me. So maybe I could do some kind of event to ”unite” the students in my school. Something to show that our differences are what makes us culturally riched and that our similarities are what makes us all humans (something cheesy like that haha). I just don’t know how to do it. Music is the universal language (kinda), so a party? A concert? A contest? I’m a college student… I have a part-time job and other classes to study for. I’m worried it’s not going to be possible for me to do something really big. What kind of event could be nice? Some ideas (or not..)? Something young people from 17 to 25 years old would be excited to attend? What kind of cultural activities would you LOVE to attend?
I’m just really lost and my teacher (who’s a psychopath *cough cough*) will not leave me alone until I have a clear idea 🙁Thanks!

I think that young people all over the world who access the same media online, movies, music, shows are very influenced by the global culture. I think global culture/ media culture is everywhere and local cultures are weakening because of the internet access and because millions and millions of people travel and live in countries other than their countries of origin. Millions of young people were not born in the countries where their parents (or their grandparents) were born.
Of course food comes to mind, even that is not so cultural anymore as … it is long since only Chinese people (different cuisines around China) ate Chinese food, not to mention the American-Chinese food that is not so Chinese, I understand…
I don’t know where to go from here… I am culturally confused and don’t have an idea for an event…

Now this may not apply to you if you have no interest in athletics, but some of the most diverse situations I’ve found myself in involve soccer (futbol) and basketball. I’ve even been in, and totally enjoyed myself, situations where I (or others) didn’t even speak the same language, but somehow managed to come together and “be on the same page” while on the field/court. Athletics seems to be one of those things that brings people together… and the Olympics are coming up, so that’s something you could consider as well. Good luck!
