    Hi everyone,
I was wondering if you can help.
Feelings of sadness have persisted with me for quite a while these past weeks.
I do yoga and meditate, but took a break from it when I started seeing someone. That didn’t go very well actually I found out that he lied to me, and it made me upset as I haven’t had many relationships. My intuition from the start was saying that this wasn’t the man for me, yet because I was lonely I went along with it and then ended up getting hurt in the end.

I have since gone back to meditating and to yoga but yet I still find myself feeling teary out of the blue.
Recently I have been having headaches, trouble sleeping (getting up at odd times), and also weird sensations through my heart centre.
I have read that this is my way of my body cleasning itself but just wonder if it will end at some point. (I found out that the guy started seeing someone else around a month ago, and that’s when the pain started)

I wondered if anyone can offer some advice about what’s happening?
Whether if anyone who started meditation, had similar emotional difficulties?
And how did you overcome these difficulties?

I just read this poem by Rumi:

I was sleeping, and being comforted
By a cool breeze, when suddenly a gray dove
From a thicket sang and sobbed with longing,
And reminded me of my own passion.

I had been away from my own soul so long
So late- sleeping, but that doves crying
Woke me and made me cry. Praise
To all early – waking grievers!

I think what happens when you do yoga, meditation and any spiritual work is you are clearing out the “gunk”. The debris is actually sloughing off of you and is hanging around in your astral plane. Then it can seem like they are coming out of you and attacking you again! The more you do the less this stuff will come up. Eventually you will be cleared and rise to a new level. When that happens, God only knows! Everyone’s different.

So I have Issues. Sometimes they don’t bother me for months, years, or days. Then I get this incredible anger from within. My sister calls me “Angry Buttercup” from the Powerpuff Girls! I am frightening to behold. But then after the anger I am clear again!

Boyfriends would generally take me personally a couple years to totally get over.

    Pandapeach,

Consider spending a little time pre and post meditation with your hand over your heart saying/thinking/feeling “Light flows through me into the world.” Jealousy is often the cause of heart area flutters, and as inky noted, let that slide right past, unneeded.

As for the tears, do they feel cleansing or self pitying? The former is fine, normal… but if you’re wallowing, consider getting up, doing something else for awhile. Its better not to drink the tears so we can cry them again, instead, we can let them roll off our cheeks and be settled.

    With warmth,
    Matt

Thanks for your kind replies. Inky your comment about “angry buttercup” made me laugh! Yes I guess we all build up emotions right back to childhood and need to find release somehow.

Matt Thanks for your tips. The crying outbursts are short and swift. sometimes I might have an outburst in middle of night and it’s happened when walkng down the street which is a bit awkward! But I instantly feel better afterwards, so it’s not the self pitying kind.

Had a great yoga session today and feeling much better ! Now I don’t feel so unusual about all the emotion’s im feeling lately and have faith that in time I will feel good again. Thanks again to you and to tiny buddha. Sending you warm wishes!

Have you considered just letting it be without judging it? Just calmly let the tears come and look at it with curiosity in how amazing your spiritual cleansing is that you are feeling it during meditation? Sometimes we just need to feel it, observe it with compassion and curiosity and let it go. It is ok to grieve an opportunity and relationship as lost, and to learn from it what you need to learn from it.

    Pandapeach,

Thank you so much for the Rumi poem, I really like it! Up to now I had only heard one line of Rumi, but your post made me seek the whole poem and I would love to share it with you…

It’s rigged — everything, in your favour.
So there is nothing to worry about.

Is there some position you want,
some office, some acclaim, some award, some con, some lover,
maybe two, maybe three, maybe four — all at once,

    maybe a relationship
    with
    God?

I know there is a gold mine in you, when you find it
the wonderment of the earth’s gifts
    you will lay aside
    as naturally as does
    a child a
    doll.

But, dear, how sweet you look to me kissing the unreal:
    comfort, fulfil yourself,
in any way possible — do that until
    you ache, until you ache,

    then come to me
    again.

    Hello, Pandapeach.

There is nothing wrong with feeling sad, sadness is a natural emotion. Don’t try to stop it, avoid it, press it. Meditate on it. You will understand the deeper unconscious ground of it. If you are hurt by someone’s unkind and unfair behavior, try to let it go. We all have our own reasons to act in a certain way and mostly we behave badly towards others because of our own weaknesses. Understand him, forgive him and let it go.

Accept your sadness in meditation, feel it fully, hug it, love it and it will leave like mist fog when the sun rises.

    Be healthy and peaceful.
    Namaste
