I feel that parents who abuse sometimes, although highly rarely, feel regret for their actions. Realizing this they might try to make an attempt to reconcile with their children, only to ether get turned down or get forgiven. Personally, I have no respect for abusive parents and wouldn’t want any adult child feeling as if they have to reconsile with them. But it does come off as a surprise when abusive parents do feel genuine remorse for their actions.
