Wayne Thiebaud? Sounds like something that he would do. He was one of my teachers in school. Was the bread edged with color so that it kind of vibrated—if so, it’s Thiebaud.

And for the rest of you…art school or even the arts department in a university is hard. It’s amazing anyone comes out of that process intact and able to continue to create art. I know that the work done in college was not significant work at all, and even what came out of it for a few years after. So don’t let the bastards get you down.

For a long time, I did not paint, although I am getting there….I’ve found I have a passion for portals, doors, arches…..places where negative space is the big part of the composition. I also really like the abstract in nature….where a small slice becomes this abstract that in itself is interesting. I think it’s about potential, but still processing it.

For a while I was doing work with lots of armless women….which now I look back on and realize it was about a lack of agency in the world, feeling helpless. At some point, they got arms and then it was uninteresting as a topic.

    It’s almost spring….plant a garden, even if it’s just a container garden.

Dig out your knitting if you still have the stuff and cast on. Don’t knit anything special, just knit. If you’ve forgotten there’s vids on line and most yarn shops will teach you basics when you buy their yarn.

Creative acts beget creative acts. So even if you just doodle a bit, or bake cookies, or whatever, it will get you there.

I am kind of in the same boat….I’ve been baking and knitting a bit, and DH got me a violin for Xmas and so I am learning that.

Just pick somthing small and do it. Draw a leaf you pick up in the garden.

    Do, no try there is.

Oh, man, you dodged several bullets there…..the hoarding thing, the illegal activity thing, the manipulation and finally, dum dum dum…..

There are probably used needles in those piles he lives among and you don’t know who used them and their blood status.

You are doing just fine and moving in the right direction.

Maybe moving, but maybe not improving. It seems to me that many people keep moving to avoid self-examination.

    Take the road less traveled!

I do have a history with meditation, and so it’s not unfamiliar to me. I have been dealing with some things in meditation….I try to stay until things feel more settled and calm. Think of the meditation as the end in and of itself. Everything else will follow. Although I have to admit, I was brought back to meditation by an article about a study that shows that meditation and yoga change the very structure of the brain, decreasing the amygdala and increasing the hippocampus, which are respectively increased and decreased by depression/anxiety (negativity). So my goal is literally to change my brain. One neuron at a time if I have to. It has the added bonus of smoothing things out and calming them down.

I like that you are owning the insight and spirituality, but trying to dispossess the negativity. The negativity is not in our best interest, and we can control how much it manifests. I mentioned yesterday, I was thinking about going back to work and how vulnerable I feel being on leave and then going back and how “they” probably hate me and think I should just eat worms (not really, but remember the song??). It started to get to me, but I was able to accept it and turn away if that makes sense. Part of it was also saying to myself…if that happened, it would not be so bad. Been there, done that. Can do it again, and way better this time.

Anyway, I am not an expert by any means, but it has my focus at the moment.

Yes, if you have a strong intuition that this is the way to go, that’s great. You may want to just kind of ask yourself (as if you are having tea with yourself) is this for my highest good? If it’s yes, your path is clear.

I am glad that just my little post has been what others need as well. Myself, I have just been sitting with this, and have been successful in pushing aside some persistent negative thinking. I missed meditation yesterday and there was some low vibrations to get through in meditation today. I am meditating about an hour or more per sitting, which is just amazing for me.
